About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Real Oviedo secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Valencia in their La Liga clash on Saturday, 14 March 2026. The match was decided by a solitary goal from David Costas (GAP -0.7%) in the 30th minute, which proved enough to earn the home side all three points. This result might come as a surprise to some, given Valencia's stature in Spanish football, but Real Oviedo's disciplined performance and tactical setup paid dividends. The game's key moment came when David Costas found the back of the net, capitalizing on a set-piece opportunity. Despite Valencia's efforts to respond, they were unable to break down a resolute Oviedo defense, marshaled effectively by Eric Bailly (GAP -0.1%). Valencia's attacking threats, including Arnaut Danjuma (GAP -2.8%) and Umar Sadiq (GAP -0.5%), were kept at bay, with Stole Dimitrievski (GAP +1.0%) in goal for Valencia making several crucial saves to keep the scoreline respectable. In terms of tactical adjustments, Real Oviedo's manager made full use of his substitutes, bringing on Dani Calvo, Ilyas Chaira, Santiago Colombatto, Haissem Hassan, and Santi Cazorla to maintain their defensive solidity and manage the game effectively. Valencia also made five changes, introducing Lucas Beltrán, Luis Rioja, André Almeida, Hugo Duro, and Diego López in an attempt to inject fresh energy and creativity into their play. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlight Guido Rodríguez (GAP +3.1%) as a standout performer for Valencia, despite the team's overall struggle to impose themselves. Unai Núñez (GAP +2.9%) also contributed positively, but it was not enough to change the outcome. This victory is significant for Real Oviedo as they continue to climb the La Liga table, gaining momentum with crucial points at this stage of the season. For Valencia, the defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper half of the table. The result underscores the competitive nature of La Liga, where even the traditionally smaller clubs can pose a significant challenge to the established teams.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
